04/02/18 Day After Easter Lower Salt River Cleanup
Phon D Sutton Recreation Area - Tonto National Forest, Mesa Ranger Distrcit
Natural Restorations hosted a Day After Easter Lower Salt River Cleanup Event at Phon D Sutton Recreation Area on Monday, April 2nd, 2018. 101 volunteers, including 11 volunteers under the age of 18 years old, helped us remove 1,047 pounds of trash from the Salt River, including rolls of carpet, a mattress and sleeping bag, a tire, several lounge chairs, clothing & shoes, plastic & glass bottles, aluminum cans, food wrappers, fishing line, plastic Easter eggs, confetti & streamers, broken glass, and lots of micro-trash.
This was the third time in 13 months we've hosted a cleanup at Phon D and we are thrilled to report that we are no longer pulling tons of trash from this area! The majority of the trash removed wasn't there when we hiked the area the day before Easter, so we were able to place more of the focus on the micro-trash and give the area a deep cleaning.
Thank you to all of the volunteers for helping us make a significant impact on the Lower Salt River!
We would like to thank the following organizations for their support of this event: American Rivers, CopperPoint Insurance Companies, Garland Signs & Specialties, Matt and his team at the Home Depot in Mesa off McKellips & Power, Icon Vehicle Dynamics, Insane Jeep Audio, Knuckle Busters, LeBaron & Carroll Insurance, OdySea Aquarium, Salt River Project, Southwest Airlines Phoenix, and the U.S. Forest Service Tonto National Forest - Mesa Ranger District.
