12/30/19 Coon Bluff Lower Salt River Cleanup with The Sleepy Whale

We teamed up with our friends from The Sleepy Whale in Chandler to head back to Coon Bluff Recreation Area along the Lower Salt River and continue what volunteers started on 12/28/19. Justin from Natural Restorations and 10 volunteers removed an additional 846 pounds of trash.

One of the reasons we removed so much trash from this area is because in September of 2019, the Steward Mountain Dam released water at 40,000 cubic feet per second into the Lower Salt River. The water rose to 18 feet in some places, flushing out all of the long buried trash from the river bed and weaving it into the vegetation.
